By now, if you haven’t heard of Clubhouse you’ve probably been living under a rock. Zuck and Elon are on it. Everyone’s on it, even Kanye West.
Clubhouse is a private, audio-only online community. A Digital Silicon Valley Yacht Club. The crazy thing is that at one point, people were paying ~$100 for invites to get in🤯. The price of exclusivity.

7 reasons why Clubhouse is making such an impact:
Clubhouse cut out the middle-man for conferences. (Andrew Wilkinson)
It’s a free, live panel from the greatest minds. . . minus the costs of a plane ticket, hotel, and leaving your family. . . unless of course, those are the reasons you go to conferences.It doesn’t suck up your attention. It’s podcast-like. “Most social apps are a zero-sum game for attention. But with Clubhouse you can be listening to social audio while browsing Twitter/Instagram.” (Immad)
Private communities optimize for people who share insights and mentorship for actual contribution’s sake vs. personal brand building (Web Smith)
People are bought in to their community and therefore are much more engaged. It solves the problem of noise on the internet."The reason why Clubhouse is having so much success right now is there's so much less friction to have a conversation without having to worry how you look on camera and what’s going on around you, whether a dog is barking." (Kayvon Beykpour)
Clubhouse = Networking Goldmine.
It’s weirdly a powerful networking tool that easily connects you with like-minded people. All you need to do is click on their profile, go their linked social accounts, and DM/follow them.It’s bringing on copycats. Twitter just incorporated Spaces and FB is said to be building a competitor as well.
China banned it. "If the totalitarian boot tries to crush it, then it's really got legs." (Antonio García Martínez)
Of course, there’s always a downside to a newly hyped platform. There’s at times poor audio and disorganization. Some people just don’t like it, but some people really, really do love it.
Does this survive the lockdown?
Not sure, but regardless, it’s simply a genius way for people to connect in a time like this. 🏠🚀
